Richard Carlbom was the campaign director for Minnesotans United for All Families and served as state director at Freedom to Marry. Carlbom is a Minnesota native who was elected mayor of the town of St. Joseph, Minnesota, just after he graduated college in 2004. He went on to work with other state elected officials before being named campaign director in opposition to a state ballot initiative that would have written discrimination into the state constitution. After winning marriage in Minnesota in 2013, Carlbom joined Freedom to Marry. In this interview, Carlbom describes in detail the two Minnesota campaigns, in 2012 and 2013.
