Elsie Arnold discusses her childhood in Baltimore, Maryland, and visiting the Chicago World’s Fair. As a young woman, she worked at Glenn L. Martin’s aircraft plant as a driller working on B-26 bombers and other aircraft. She remembers German POWs at Johns Hopkins while she was studying nursing. She discussed the role of race in hiring practices, entertainment, and rations. She observed female pilots before transitioning to nursing studies during the war. After her long career in nursing, she retired and reconnected with other Baltimore area Rosies. She remains active in the Rosie community and helping spread the word of their inspirational work during the WWII years.
