Description

Eiko Yasutake was born in Los Angeles, California and with her family "voluntarily" moved to Oklahoma instead of being sent to incarceration camps. Eiko shares her memories of living in Oklahoma as a child and then moving to Utah where they and other free Japanese Americans lived not far from Topaz, where Japanese Americans were incarcerated. She describes visiting family at Heart Mountain in Wyoming. She mentions victory gardens, rationing, and an episode of racially-based bullying. After the war, Eiko and her family returned to Los Angeles.
