Betty Mosher Samson was born in a little house under a big oak tree in North Sacramento, California. She grew up in Sacramento and Lake Crystal, Minnesota. Her parents and grandparents were primarily farmers, but her father also worked as a mechanic. During Betty’s senior year in high school, she learned about airplane mechanics and straight out of high school she went to work during WWII at McClellan Air Force Base repairing aircraft engines. While wearing her airplane mechanic’s uniform, Betty describes with passion her work during the war. She also shares experiences of her civilian life including dating, recreation, memories of rationing, newsreels, and interaction with soldiers. She describes her marriage and other postwar jobs before happily returning to work repairing aircraft work at McClellan in the fifties during the Korean War. Betty describes her ranch living in Auburn and her support of the Rosie the Riveter WWII Home Front National Historical Park in Richmond , California
