Frank Inami grew up on a farm in Madera, California. He discusses his time at UC Berkeley, including the Japanese Student Club, Robert Gordon Sproul's Student Relocation Committee, joining ROTC, and his draft classification as a 4C enemy alien. He recounts numerous experiences with discrimination, including within the military and anti-miscegenation laws. Inami and his family were held at the Fresno [detention facility] and then incarcerated in Jerome and Rohwer, Arkansas. Inami eventually was able to transfer to Illionois Tech in Chicago, where he graduated in electrical engineering. After graduation, he joined the Military Intelligence Service and also went on to serve in the Korean War. He went on to have a successful career at Lawrence Livermore Laboratory.
