Description
Wilson Carey McWilliams served as a bridge between the younger FSM activists and the older generation of student leaders. In the Fall of 1964 he was a professor of political science at Oberlin College, but had been returning regularly to Berkeley to do research, teach summer school and maintain his friendships on campus. His astute and articulate analysis of “the system” was legendary in the movement. In this interview he discusses mistakes of the administration, the role of Mario Savio and the media’s coverage of FSM. He also discusses the career of his father, Carey McWilliams, as an attorney, historian and journalist.
