Description
Tom Daschle, a Democrat, was first elected to public office as one of South Dakota's Representatives in 1978. He was elected to represent that state in the United States Senate in 1986. Once entering the Senate, Daschle served on the influential Senate Finance Committee. After the 1994 midterm elections, Daschle became the Senate Minority Leader and then, from mid-2001 to early-2003 served as the Senate's Majority Leader. He lost in a reelection battle in 2004.
