Don Fisher was a member of the SFMOMA Board of Trustees from 1983 to 2009, the Treasurer from 1992-1995 and the Secretary/Treasurer from 1998 to 2009. Beyond being a member of the SFMOMA, Fisher was an art collector whose collection included works from Diebenkorn, Lichtenstein, and Richard Long. He started The Gap in 1969 and immediately after started purchasing prints which included Warhol's Mick Jagger pieces among others. Fisher was a member of the SFMOMA Board of Trustees and worked with Jack Lane and other influential museum staff on acquisitions for the museum collections. In this interview, Fisher discusses works in his collection, acquiring prints, work with dealers of other influential families, Brooks and Peggy Walker, Jack Lane, John Caldwell, German art, The Anderson Collection, SFMOMA acquisitions and Bay Area private collections, SFMOMA board and management dynamics, transition from Jack Lane to David Ross, and thoughts on various non-profit boards.
