Bob Erickson interview #2: In this follow-up to his first interview, Mr. Erickson discusses Kaiser Permanente’s government relations program from the 1950s when the organization hired its first lobbyist in Sacramento into the 1990s, by which time the organization maintained a permanent presence in Washington DC and work alongside many other large health insurers. The interview details Kaiser’s efforts to influence the legislation that created Medicare, its role in crafting the HMO Act of 1973, and its responses to federal efforts at comprehensive health reform.
