Paule Anglim was the founder and owner of Gallery Paule Anglim in San Francisco. Anglim was born in Quebec City in 1923 and attended both the Université Laval in Quebec and at the University of Toronto and received a degree in sociology. She moved to the Bay Area after being hired by the Catholic Social Services as a social worker. Anglim went on to start the Gallery Paule Anglim in the early 1970s in North Beach. The gallery developed a relationship with SFMOMA, in particular, curator John Caldwell. The gallery hosted artists such as Vince Fecteau, David Ireland, Terry Fox, Anne Appleby, Joan Brown, Bruce Conner, David Park, and Enrique Chagoya. In this interview, Anglim and Ed Gilbert discuss Anglim's birth, education, move to the Bay Area, opening the gallery, the gallery's approach to art and artists, working with museums in the region, art criticism, Society for the Encouragement of Contemporary Art, John Caldwell, Anglim artists, gifts to the museum, relationships with SFMOMA directors and the Koret Center.
