Michael Thomas was born in 1960 in Germany, where his father was stationed in the US Army. After graduating high school in 1978, his father took an post at the OAB and the family moved to the San Francisco Bay Area. Thomas attended San Jose State University and, then, upon graduating enlisted in the Army where he spent 10 years on active service and five in the reserves. While on active duty, he served at the OAB Military Traffic Management Command. He was discharged from the Army in 1993 and went to work for the American President Lines shipping company. In this interview, Thomas discusses his life in the military and the core functions of the OAB.
