Wayne Thiebaud was a painter and Professor of Art at UC Davis from 1960 to 1991. Thiebaud first visited SFMOMA around 1942 and participated in the Art Association Annuals during the 50s and 60s. In this interview, Thiebaud discusses his move to San Francisco, first exposure to SFMOMA, relations with various staff members, concerns about initial collections development, Bay Area artists' perception of the museum, Jack Lane, David Ross, Neal Benezra, paintings in the SFMOMA, early shows in San Francisco, de Young retrospective in 2000, and SFMOMA’s Bay Area Treasure Award.
