Paul Nahm was born in Alameda County in the 1940 and raised in San Leandro. Nahm was active in city and county politics and also worked at the Alameda Naval Air Station. Nahm became active early in the movement to oppose base closures in Alameda County. In the early 1990s he went to work for Alameda County as an advocate for workers who would lose their jobs due to base closures. He then became the first executive director of the Oakland Base Reuse Authority which presided over bases in the Oakland-Alameda area that were destined for closure, including the Oakland Army Base. This interview examines the base closure and redevelopment process.
