Fred Gowan was born in 1939 in Oklahoma and enlisted with Army upon graduating high school in 1958. A career member of the Armed Services, Gowan was stationed at numerous bases in the United States and abroad. Between 1973 and 1976, he was stationed at the OAB. While there he met the woman he would marry in a ceremony at the base chapel. He returned to the OAB in 1984 for another assignment. In this interview, Gowan discusses life as a career Army officer, the core cargo transportation functions of the OAB, and the social and cultural life on military installations.
