Margaret Gordon was born in Richmond, California, in 1946 and raised in the Bay Area. After the collapse of the Cypress Freeway in West Oakland during the Loma Prieta Earthquake of 1989, Gordon became involved in the Coalition for West Oakland Revitalization. In the mid-1990s, she became involved in the West Oakland Community Advisory Group, which was affiliated with the Oakland Base Reuse Authority. She later was appointed the Port of Oakland Commission. In this interview, Gordon discusses community advocacy and the closure and reuse of the OAB.
