Lou Bright is an attorney focusing on Texas liquor law and former General Counsel of the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission. Bright earned a bachelor's degree in political science from St. Mary’s University in 1979 and his JD from Baylor University School of Law in 1981. After practicing criminal defence and civil litigation law in Waco, Texas, he began to work for the Texas Attorney General’s office from 1985. In 1994, he left to serve as General Counsel and ethics advisor for the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission until 2010, when he became General Counsel for the Texas Wine and Grape Growers Association. Bright was interviewed for the documentary “America’s Wine: The Legacy of Prohibition” and in this interview, he discusses the effects of the Granholm v. Heald ruling, specifically in Texas. This interview is part of a series of interviews from “America’s Wine: The Legacy of Prohibition” that were donated to the Bancroft library.
