Description

Jack and Eleanor Bollinger were married in 1947. In this joint interview, the Bollingers share their sixty years of memories of the Oakland Army Base. Their memories of the base date back to a fleeting moment around 1940, before the base was commissioned, when Eleanor caught a glimpse of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt touring the area that would become the base. As World War II veteran of the Navy, Jack Bollinger later worked as an electrician building federal Capehart Housing to shelter troops stationed on the base.
