Edith Kramer was the Film Curator for the SFMOMA from 1970 to 1973. She arrived at SFMOMA in 1970 after leaving her job at the Canyon Cinema Filmmakers' Cooperative where she had been a manager. She was hired by then director Gerry Nordland who gave her free range to work on developing the film aspect of the museum. Kramer brought general popular interest to the program and eventually expanded to co-screening films with UC Berkeley. She left SFMOMA in 1973 and went on to work for the Pacific Film Archive. In this interview, Kramer discusses her initial work with the Canyon Cinema FIlmmakers' Cooperative, film showings before her arrival at the museum, becoming the Cinematic Curator, local filmmakers who participated, public interest in the program, controversial films, career after SFMOMA and impressions of the new museum and its current state.
