Description
George Gaebler was born in Missouri but has resided in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1922. He had the opportunity to see the Oakland waterfront before the Oakland Army Base (OAB) was built in the buildup to World War II. Gaebler was a reservist after the war and then served during the Korean War. His longest involvement with the OAB was as instructor and leader of the Army Reserve School on the base. He retired from the reserve in 1970 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
