At the time of this interview, George Johnson was 108 years old. Born in 1894 in Pennsylvania, Johnson was a World War I veteran. He came to California with his wife after World War I and settled in the Richmond Annex in 1935. He worked with various forms of transportation and public transit. Mr. Johnson's interview focuses on wartime work, living in Richmond, and living in Richmond during the War. It also offers interesting insights into racial identity in America.
