Description

Bill Jackson was a merchant marine during World War II. As he is chief engineer of the Red Oak, this interview was conducted on the ship, and includes participation by some of the other volunteers on the ship. Part of the interview includes a tour, followed by a sit-down discussion. Jackson talks about his experiences during the war, his travels all over world, and experiences with racism as an African American merchant marine. He is also the son of African American Berkeley activist Frances Albrier.
