Christopher Lee was an East Bay chef and restaurant owner who established Eccolo Restaurant in Berkeley. Born in 1952 in Chicago, he moved to California to enter into the restaurant industry after completing culinary school, securing a job with Narsai’s in Kensington. Lee’s extensive career included over ten years working with Alice Waters at Chez Panisse, and in 2004, he opened Eccolo Restaurant in Berkeley’s 4th Street walking mall area. In this interview and video, Lee discusses his career as a chef and reflects upon the role of food in life and the importance of regionalism in global Foodways.
