Richard C. Trudeau was the general manager of the East Bay Regional Park District from 1968 to 1985. Trudeau was born in Tracy, Minnesota but was raised in Seattle, Washington where he attended the University of Washington from 1938 to 1945 and later completed his graduate studies at Syracuse University. After graduating, he went overseas with the U.S. Department of State and stayed in London and Denmark working on music promotion and festivals. Upon returning to the United States, he began work at the East Bay Regional Park District in 1964 where he focused on the District's annexation of Contra Costa County, fundraising and working with the Park District Board. Trudeau became general manager of the District in 1968 where he dealt with managing during and after Proposition 13, land negotiation, affirmative action programs, fire prevention and acquiring shoreline properties. He decided to retire in 1985 but continued to work with the District via consulting. In this interview Trudeau discusses his family background and childhood education, graduate studies, trips abroad, early career and work with the government, early years at the East Bay Regional Park District, 1964-1968, effect of Proposition 13, later years with the District, retirement and consulting.
