Wayne Miller is a documentary photographer known for his series of photographs The Way of Life of the Northern Negro. Born in 1918 in Chicago, he studied at the Art Center School of Los Angeles. During WWII, Miller was assigned to Edward Steichen's Naval Aviation Photographic Unit, where he documented the destruction at Hiroshima. After the war, he received two Guggenheim fellowships in 1946 and 1948 to work on his project The Way of Life of the Northern Negro. This project documented the wartime migration of African Americans northward.
