Daniel Yansura began working for Genentech in 1978 and, as of 2002, was a Senior Scientist at the company. Yansura attended Wayne State University from 1968 to 1973, conducting biochemistry research, and continued on to graduate school at the University of Colorado from 1974 until 1976. He was recruited to Genentech by fellow University of Colorado graduate student David Goeddel, who had joined the company in early 1978. In this interview, Yansura discusses his family background and education, working at Genentech, and research on the hepatitis B vaccine, protein expression, the foot-and-mouth disease vaccine, human insulin, and human growth hormone.
