Thomas Kiley was an attorney and served Genentech as outside counsel from 1976 to 1980 and then as vice president for corporate affairs and general counsel from 1980 to 1988. He attended Pennsylvania State University from 1961 through 1965, studying chemical engineering and then went to law school at George Washington Law School from 1966 until 1969. He practiced intellectual property trial law at Lyon & Lyon until 1980. In this interview, Kiley discusses his education and career prior to joining Genentech, working for Genentech as outside patent counsel, and his experience as the first general counsel for Genentech.
