Stanley W. Galli was San Francisco painter and illustrator. Born in 1912 in San Francisco, he received a scholarship at the California School of Fine Arts in 1924 and later studied in Los Angeles at the Art Center School. His illustrations have appeared in Country Gentlemen, Sports Afield, True, Reader's Digest, and Saturday Evening post. Galli also designed 26 postage stamps for the USPO. After his career as an advertising artist, he turned to fine art painting, largely inspired by his travels to Italy. Galli's paintings include the Pavimento series that had its beginnings in the early eighties. In this interview, he discusses the world of advertising and commercial illustration, magazine clients, memorable artists and friends, and his rediscovery of Early California as a subject in his work.
