Sandra Kirshenbaum was an editor, publisher, and the founder of Fine Print. Born in 1938 in Milan, her family moved to San Francisco in 1940 to escape fascism. She received a bachelor's degree in Italian literature from UC Berkeley in 1959 and a master's in library science from Carnegie Library School in 1960. Kirshenbaum founded Fine Print (1973–1990), a review about the book arts. She was a central figure in the renaissance of the Bay Area book arts movement. Kirshenbaum received several honors, including the Oscar Lewis Award from the Book Club of California in 1998. In this interview, she discusses her Italian family background, UC Berkeley, the Carnegie Institute of Technology, work as a public librarian, and the evolution of Fine Print.
