Janice Rivers Kittredge was a founding employee of Save San Francisco Bay Association from 1964 to 1998. Kittredge was born in Oakland, California in 1926 and raised in Berkeley where she attended UC Berkeley during WWII. While there she joined the staff of the Blue and Gold as an editor, chaired the Elections Committee and was a member of the ASUC finance committee. After graduating she participated in numerous volunteer activities through the 1950s including being the Prytanean Alumnae and the UC alumni class secretary. In 1964 she became the first employee of the Save San Francisco Bay Association and participated in developing special projects, raising funds, and resolving internal conflicts. In this interview Kittredge discusses growing up in Berkeley, attending UC Berkeley (1944-1947), working for the Prytanean honor societies and Mortar Board, impact of WWII, personal life, an overview of Save San Francisco Bay Association, relationships between the board and staff, comments on Save the Bay founders Esther Gulick, Catherine Kerr, and Sylvia McLaughlin and longtime staff member Barry Nelson. This interview also contains an appended 1987 interview with Janice Kittredge, "Making Blake House into a Graduate Women's Residence, 1963-1965."
