Description

Evelyn Danzig Haas was a former president and CEO of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, who oversaw the museum’s relocation to a new site in the 1980s. Raised in New York City, Haas attended Wheaton College in Massachusetts and moved to the West Coast in 1938 upon marrying her husband Walter Haas, Jr. A lifelong patron of the arts, Haas was a volunteer for the Children's Theater Association and San Francisco Symphony, as well as the co-author of a book on fly fishing. In 1953, she and her husband founded the Evelyn and Walter Haas, Jr. Fund, a private foundation for supporting nonprofit organizations and awarding grants. In this interview, Haas discusses her museum career and volunteer work, in addition to her memories of Walter and his family.
