Agustin Huneeus was a winemaker and former president of Franciscan Estate Selections, which made premium wines under several Californian and Chilean labels. Born in 1933 in Santiago, Chile, he received his secondary education through dual programs in the United States and Chile and went on to attend Fordham University in New York for his undergraduate years. Following his return to Chile, he acquired his first winery, Concha y Toro, in 1960 and later expanded his entrepreneurial reach by joining the company Seagram in Argentina. In the mid-1970s, he moved to California to acquire the Noble Winery and Concannon Vineyard, eventually becoming the president and part owner of Franciscana Estate Selections in 1985. In this interview, Huneeus discusses this long-standing career as a winemaker, financial and agriculture aspects of running a vineyard, and future trends in the winemaking industry.
