Description

Brooks Firestone was a vintner and businessman who established Firestone Vineyard in the Santa Ynez Valley. Born in 1936 in Cleveland, Ohio, he earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from Columbia University in 1961 and went on to join the family business at Firestone Tire and Rubber Company. In 1972, noting the lack of wineries in Southern California, he took over management of a property in Los Olivos and developed it into Firestone Vineyard. In this interview, Firestone discusses the climate and soil of the Santa Ynez Valley, the growth of Firestone Vineyard, and general trends and changes in the wine industry. This interview is part of a group of interviews documenting the California wine industry, as well as a group documenting the Firestone family and Firestone Vineyards.
