Description

Edith Heath was a studio potter and founder of Heath Ceramics. She was born in 1911 in Ida Grove, Iowa, and attended Chicago Teachers College. In 1944, Heath held her first major show at the California Palace of the Legion of Honor. Four years later, she opened Heath Ceramics in Sausalito, California. Even after the commercial success of her company, Heath's works remained committed to the Bauhaus principles that fused art and technology. In this interview, she discusses her childhood and educational background, her exhibits at Palace of Legion of Honor and de Young Museum, the growth of Heath Ceramics, domestic and international buyers, and her experiments with design, mineral content, ceramic chemistry, and recycling. This interview was a donation from Rosalie Ross.
