John P. Austin was an attorney and long-time partner at San Francisco law firm Morrison and Foerster. Born in 1914 in Montclair, New Jersey, Austin attended Harvard College and earned his law degree from Yale in 1936. After working at a firm for several years, he served in the Navy until 1945 and moved to San Francisco, where he would work for Morrison and Foerster for more than forty years. In this interview, Austin discusses the early history of Morrison & Foerster, his work as Commerce, Industry, and Labor counselor, changes in law-firm management, and the firm’s clients.
