Description
Louis “Bob” Trinchero was the chairman and CEO of Sutter Home Winery, at one point the largest independent family winery in the United States. Born in New York City in 1936, he worked several jobs throughout high school, including working at the family-owned Sutter Home Winery, purchased by his father and uncle in 1946. Following his graduation, he served in the Air Force from 1955 to 1958, and in 1960, he became a business partner and full time employee alongside his father at Sutter Home. In his long career as a vintner, he oversaw the growth and diversification of Sutter Home in the 1960s and 1970s, as well as the success of its innovative White Zinfandel labels. In this interview, Trinchero discusses his early work experience and military service, the acquisition and history of Sutter Home, the development of White Zinfandel, and the process of running a family winery. This interview is part of a group of interviews documenting the California wine industry.
