Lillian Wolock Elliott was a fiber artist and art instructor at the Department of Design at UC Berkeley. Born in 1930 in Detroit, Michigan, she earned a M.F.A. in 1955 from Cranbrook Academy of Art with a major in ceramics, a minor in painting. Frlm 1966 to 1971, Elliot taught in the Department of Design at UC Berkeley. After teaching, she turned to studio work and began to create baskets out of innovative material such as cloth, bark, paper, twine, and zippers. Elliot became an influential figure in San Francisco’s fiber arts community. In this interview, she discusses her early education in Detroit, textile history, exhibitions and museums, Department of Design at UC Berkeley, and memorable peers.
