Michael Moone was the former president of Wine World, Inc., the umbrella company of Beringer Vineyards in Napa Valley. Born in 1940 in Santa Monica, California, Moone attended the University of Pennsylvania before transferring to UCLA and completing his undergraduate degree in business. Moone was hired by Procter & Gamble in 1962 and worked in marketing and recruitment for eleven years before joining Beringer Vineyards as a district manager in 1973. In 1984, he was made president of Beringer Vineyards and Wine World, ushering in a renaissance of the Beringer label. In this interview, Moone discusses his early interest in wine and wine collecting, his career in marketing, Wine World’s operating divisions and international wine distribution, and his activities in prominent wine organizations. This interview is part of a group of interviews documenting the California wine industry.
