Eddie Eaton was born in 1917 in Houston, Texas and moved to Richmond, California in 1943 to find work. He joined the local 560 Painters Union and began a job as a painter in the shipyards during World War II. After the war, he moved to Bethlehem Steel and continued working as a painter until his retirement in 1980. In this interview, Eaton discusses his family background and childhood, his upbringing in the Baptist Church, his early exposure to golf, and his experience in the Richmond shipyards during the war. He also discusses his experience in Richmond as a black man and his thoughts on the postwar city.
