James T. Curry Sr. was a metallurgist for Empire Star Mine and Newmont Exploration (1932-1955) as well as plant manager for the Calaveras Cement Company (1956-1975). Curry was born in San Francisco and raised in Berkeley, California. He began working for Newmont Mining Corporation in 1932 as a laborer and metallurgist and later became a cement plant manager in Redding, California in 1959. In this interview, Curry discusses growing up in Berkeley, mills under the Newmont Mining Corporation, working for Newmont Mining Corporation, working for the Calaveras Cement Company, acquiring land and claims, retirement, friends and family and recollections from Berkeley.
