Margaret Louise Cathey was a welder in the Kaiser Shipyards during World War II. Born in 1919 in Fort Worth, Texas, Cathey grew up in Iowa and moved to Richmond, California in 1942 to work in the shipyards. After losing her shipyard job at the end of the war, she got a job at Pacific Telephone and remained there for thirty years. In this interview, Cathay discusses his experience as a welder in the Kaiser Shipyards, life in Richmond during the war, and postwar changes in the city.
