Pauline Davis was a member of the California State Assembly from 1952 until her retirement in 1976. Born in 1917 in Verdigre, Nebraska, she later moved to California and married Lester Davis, a California state assemblyman from 1947 until 1952. She worked as Lester Davis’ secretary during his time in the Assembly and was elected herself following Lester’s death in 1952. In this interview, Davis discusses her childhood, moving to California and her marriage to Lester Davis, her time as Lester Davis’ secretary, her experience as a woman in the state assembly, and legislation on water, recreation, roadside rests, and county fairs. She also reflects on her relationships with her colleagues.
