Emily Pike was a political activist and organizer for the Republican Party. She grew up in Boston, Massachusetts and Shelbyville, Kentucky in the 1920s and ‘30s and became involved in the Young Republicans shortly after moving to San Francisco, California in 1946. She worked her way up to become the chair of the San Francisco Republican Central Committee and a partner in a political campaign management firm. In this interview, Pike reflects on her childhood and family background, her early work experience, and her career in Republican politics, including working for the Young Republicans, the County and State Republican Central Committees, the Republican National Convention, and various political campaigns. She also discusses dissension among liberal and conservative Republicans, as well as women in politics.
