Paul G. Bishop was a portrait photographer. Born in 1915 in Stockton, California, he attended dental school but dropped out to pursue photography in 1938. After opening a photographic studio in Berkeley, Bishop was drafted in World War II and served as a photographic officer in the U.S. Navy. He attended photo school, did aerial reconnaissance photography, and received a Presidential Citation. When Bishop returned to the United States, he opened a new studio with the assistance of his wife. In this interview, Bishop discusses memorable photographers, his philosophy towards the camera, and different types of photography.
