Description

George B. Harris was a federal judge in the Northern District Court of California. Born in San Francisco, California in 1901, Harris studied theater before earning his law degree in 1926 from St. Ignatius College School of Law. He practiced civil law until his appointment to San Francisco Municipal Court in 1941 and Northern District Court in 1946, serving as Chief Judge from 1961 to 1970. In this interview, Harris discusses his run for state assembly in 1938, representing Hollywood actors, serving on the Committee on Rules of Practice and Procedure, and his love for the theatre. This interview is part of a group of interviews documenting the law firm Pillsbury, Madison & Sutro.
