Raymond Puccinelli was a sculptor and professor of sculpture at UC Berkeley. Born in San Francisco in 1904, he began his art training at the age of 15 at the Schaeffer School of Design. After a year of studying abroad in France and Italy, Puccinelli returned to San Francisco to assist in the studio of J. Viera and study under Benny Bufano. In the 1940s he operated a studio in San Francisco’s Chinatown and taught sculpture at UC Berkeley. In this interview, Puccinelli discusses his art education and career as a sculptor, his projects for the Works Progress Administration, and his time as professor in the art department at UC Berkeley.
