Description

Sara Bard Field was a poet and a prominent member of the suffragist movement. Field was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1882 and moved to Rangoon, Burma in 1900 with her husband Reverend Albert Ehrgott, whom she later divorced. She was involved with a series of national suffrage campaigns, and also became acquainted with and later married Charles Erskin Scott Wood. The two later established their estate “The Cats” in Los Gatos, California and struck up friendships with many notable artists and writers, whom they often entertained in their home. In this interview, Field discusses her childhood and family background, her marriage to Albert Ehrgott and life in Burma, her involvement in politics and the suffrage movement, her relationship with Charles Erskin Scott Wood, and her friendships and social circle.
