Description

Antonio Perelli-Minetti was an Italian-American vintner and the founder of A. Perelli-Minetti and Sons. Born in 1882 to a winemaking family in Barletta, Italy, he graduated from the Royal Institute of Viticulture and Enology in 1901 and moved to California shortly after to work for Italian Swiss Colony. In his early years as a winemaker, he was involved in numerous projects, including the California Wine Company, the California Wine Association, and the Simi firm. Following several years in Mexico during the Prohibition era and his subsequent return to the United States, he established the family firm A. Perelli-Minetti and Sons in 1924 and helped develop the wine growing region near Delano over the 1930s. In this interview, Perelli-Minetti discusses winery-grower relationships, changing trends in the industry, and his experiences making wine in California, Mexico, and Italy. This interview is part of a group of interviews documenting the California wine industry.
