Helen Sommer Gage was the granddaughter of Dr. Willard Pratt, after whom the town of Prattville in Plumas County, California is named. She was born in Prattville in 1888, and she served as an assistant schoolteacher in Carmel during the early twentieth century. In this interview, she discusses her life in Prattville and Chico; the stories she heard during her childhood about the Indians living in the area, as well as her own memories of them; the summer resorts around Lake Alamor; her family’s friendship with General John Bidwell and his family; and her experiences living in her summer residence of forty years in Warner Valley.
