Lucile Heming Koshland was a leading figure in the League of Women Voters both on a national and regional scale. Born in New York City, she attended Vassar and Bernard for her undergraduate years and later moved to the West Coast following her marriage to Daniel Koshland in 1959. In New York, she was a board member of the League and managed its Overseas Education Fund; after her resignation from the national League of Women Voters, she remained active in the local San Mateo branch in California. In addition she also served as a board member of the International Hospitality Center of the Bay Area, among other many civic engagements. In this interview, Koshland discusses her childhood and education, East and West Coast Jewish communities, encountering anti-Semitism, and her extensive work with the League.
