Lewis D. Bohnett was a three-term California State Assemblyman and attorney. Born in 1880 in Santa Clara, California, Bonhett graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 1904 and passed the bar in 1907. After working as a clerk in the state legislature, he served as a State Assemblyman for Santa Clara County from 1909 to 1915, when he began practicing law in San Jose, later serving as County Chairman for Robert La Follete presidential campaign in 1924 and the first chairman of the San Jose State College Advisory Board from 1923 until 1966. In this interview, Bohnett discusses his education, California state progressive politics in the early twentieth century, the California Water Commision Act of 1913, and the La Follette run for president under the progressive party.
